100% Design is the UK’s largest design trade event and central to the melting pot of creativity, ideas and celebration of design that forms the London Design Festival (‘LDF’). As such, the show attracts tens of thousands of visitors, both national and international, keen to do business and see the latest innovations and product launches. In the digital age, it is now faster and easier to share files across myriad social and new media platforms, as well as traditional channels. Therefore, protecting the Intellectual Property rights (‘IP’) of exhibitors and their product images showing at 100% Design continues to be of paramount importance.
For the second consecutive year 100% Design is proud to announce its continued partnership with Creative Barcode, an incredibly innovative company at the forefront of digital IP. Creative Barcode designed a highly sophisticated albeit easy-to-use digital IP system that enables users to register creative work with Creative Barcode’s system and create unique IP Tags to attribute IP rights to their work whilst also communicating contact numbers and licensing details.
Once an item of work such as a design is registered with Creative Barcode’s system and an IP tag assigned to the work, the benefits can include increased PR and awareness for the creator of the idea - be it a design, photograph, concept or written piece of work, because the creator can be found easily, correctly attributed and because their IP is protected. However, if any item shared publically on or offline is not tagged or displaying any form of identifier a designers IP rights become vulnerable to unauthorised use, inaccurate source credits, complicated IP rights and difficulty managing payments.
100% Design’s Director, William Knight says; "100% Design respect and value our exhibitors' IP. Accordingly, we've partnered with Creative Barcode to place its digital IP system and trust principles at the heart of the show. We aim to raise positive awareness of IP to exhibitors and visitors alike."
100% Design 2014 will continue with the statement: 'ADMIRE THE WORK. ACKNOWLEDGE THE RIGHTS'. This IP policy message will be editorially highlighted in the Exhibition Guide and displayed on all registration tickets along with a request that all visitors ask permission from the exhibitor before taking photographs.
Creative Barcode CEO, Maxine Horn adds; "In general people are honest. But nowadays it is increasingly confusing for viewers of creative works to know what is free-to-use and share and what requires permission and payment. Creative Barcode protects creators and clarifies a complex issue."
The Creative Barcode fast, easy and cost efficient innovative IP system has been applauded by IP lawyers as a considerable advance in terms of safety and security and is proven internationally. Creative Barcode are endorsed by British Library and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Importantly it has never been breached.
In this digital age, 100% Design are pleased to be able to reassure exhibitors of the safety of their work through this partnership and offer the best possible protection of their IP rights.

About Creative Barcode
Creative Barcode has attracted thousands of users from more than 29 countries and has gained the endorsement of the British Library and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
The CB system has never been breached.
Creative Barcode system comprises a digital IP register, IP Tag generator with QR code and unique urls embedded linking to Creators Meta Data including contact details and usage permissions, a database-driven portal, a file transfer facility and a Trust Charter and Transfer of Ownership facility.
The technology enables users to rapidly generate their unique IP Tags/QR codes embedded with their ownership Meta Data and contact details, where applicable, plus other formal registrations and licensing information.
Uniquely an IP Tag can be edited which simultaneously updates every item it has been applied to, whether online or in print.
Thus, if an item of work and its IP is sold outright it only takes 3 minutes to change ownership details and simultaneously apply worldwide.
Creative Barcode is a trusted brand. Its digital and visible IP system has removed a great deal of the IP complexity from early stage concept disclosure and permission based usage.
Online, internet users can easily recognise 'Rights Reserved' or 'Free-Use' terms associated with the creative work and can swiftly contact the creator to gain permission to use, to license, to purchase or to commission original works.
Creative Barcode trust charter operates to three key principles - Etiquette (ask permission), Trust (don't rip me off), Ethics (do the right thing).
The principles are easy to abide by and hence the Creative Barcode system has built a substantial international framework around trust and ethics all supported by the WIPO's mediation service; and it’s never been breached.
If you Value it, IP tag it
Working in Partnership
IP awareness will be positively raised and a permission-based policy adopted as follows:-
This prevents images of works becoming 'orphan works' when
separated from the owners' Meta Data and used unaccredited or
without payment, where applicable.
